Hummingbird
2010
A poem by my friend Ruth Kessler was inspiration for this Flutter Book. Her flitting, mercurial, light take on the elusive visitor delighted me when I read it. I have tried, in the resulting book, to mirror not only the poet’s word’s but the quick light here, then not, of the magical creature.
Flutter book housed in a clamshell box. 3 ½ x 7 inches, unfolding to 76 inches.
Pochoir and letterpress in silver ink, gouache and copper ink on Nishinouchi Natural Naka Ban, hand- dyed with walnut ink. Book cover papers by Velma Bolyard from plants grown on her farm. Box covered with silver spattered paper by the artist.
Edition of 10
