BLUSH

2009/10

This piece is a tribute to a close friend who died from breast cancer in 2009 . As the snow fell along with the tears, and all was either white or black.. I could only remember her pink aliveness, her interest in dreams and Eastern philosophies, the heightened use of color in her work, her rosy blush of beauty The haiku, now printed inside of the box, came to me as I realized that her physical aura was no more . Her sweet sparkle needed a positive send-off on my part, so what spilled forth was color. Her ashes were to be scattered in warm Florida in the spring of the year. I have made pink confetti of the I Ching as my symbolic celebratory offering. The book is light as a feather, in recalling her good spirit and the promised blush of youth
